Plano City Council approved its fiscal year 2026-27 budget and an unchanged tax rate at a Sept. 14 meeting.

In a nutshell

The city of Plano’s approved general fund budget of $435.52 million is about a 2.2% increase from its latest estimate of expenses from the previous fiscal year, per previous reporting. The additional funds will primarily increase the police department’s budget, help with implementation of the fire department’s 24/72 shift schedule and help support the city’s new whole blood program.

Smaller allocations will also go toward other departments for city planning purposes, recreation center maintenance and inflationary costs, among other things.

This year’s approved tax rate is the same as the 2025-26 fiscal year rate, per previous reporting, at $0.4376 per $100 valuation. The median homestead taxable value is estimated to be $464,574, according to city documents.

The background

Plano City Council maintained the same tax rate every year from 2022 until last year, per previous reporting, because of legislative uncertainties that would impact the city’s ability to increase revenue in the future.

[15
80240,160,718,18650,15243,162,161,1934,25538,119396
post-437039","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-plano","tag-general-fund","tag-plano","tag-plano-budget","tag-plano-city-council","tag-plano-fire-department","tag-plano-headlines","tag-plano-news","tag-plano-police-department","tag-tax-rate","tag-whole-blood-program
["GET
