BEXAR COUNTY, Texas \u2013 Walmart has purchased around 35 acres of land near Culebra Road and Talley Road in far northwest Bexar County, according to public records.<\/p>\n
The land has remained undeveloped. It is not yet known whether Walmart plans to build a store, a warehouse, a Sam\u2019s Club or another type of facility at the site.<\/p>\n
A Walmart spokesperson said the company is always \u201clooking for opportunities to better serve its customers and communities,\u201d but does not have any further details to share. The company did not say whether a traffic study had been conducted.<\/p>\n
The purchase comes as the area has seen heavy traffic congestion and new housing developments. Residents said the growth has made everyday commutes more difficult.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re honestly thinking of moving further out,\u201d said Laura Hernandez. \u201cBecause when we moved out here it was nothing, just farmland.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some neighbors said a new store would be welcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s super annoying having to go like 15, 20 minutes down the road just to get to Walmart, H-E-B,\u201d said Alex Adams, who lives in the area.<\/p>\n
Regina Hixson, who also lives in the area, said she expects a new store to put more strain on roads but said the community needs one.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s gonna add a lot to the traffic and the population out here, of course, but we need one out here for that reason,\u201d Hixson said.<\/p>\n
Adams said she felt a store closer to neighborhoods like Valley Ranch could help with traffic.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it would honestly help traffic because all the people way down there who really need to go to Walmart, they don\u2019t have to go all the way down Culebra; they can just stop right there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Some were less certain a new development would ease congestion.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s so hard to get out of my subdivision with all the traffic,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201dI just think it\u2019s probably gonna make it worse.\u201d <\/p>\n
TxDOT manages Culebra Road. A spokesperson told KSAT they would work on a response to our questions in several days.<\/p>\n
