4,000 Horizon Hill apartment complex<\/a> on the Northwest Side. When KSAT visited the apartment Sept. 10, a child\u2019s bedroom measured around 90 degrees.<\/p>\n\u201cI\u2019m paying so much money and I\u2019m not getting what I\u2019m, you know, paying for,\u201d Krystal said.<\/p>\n
That same day, the city of San Antonio\u2019s Code Enforcement Division issued the complex\u2019s management a notice of violation for the inoperable air conditioning. KSAT\u2019s report aired that evening.<\/p>\n
The next day, the complex moved Krystal and her family into a model unit. That apartment also did not have working air conditioning, so the family was moved again, to another unit.<\/p>\n
The second unit measured around 70 degrees in every room, showing it had operable air conditioning.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe boys are more comfortable,\u201d Krystal said. \u201cIt\u2019s not their home, but, you know, as long as they\u2019re comfortable, they\u2019re fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
The apartment complex\u2019s management replied to KSAT by email on Tuesday afternoon and said in part, \u201cWe were able to identify further repairs that will help fully address the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
Management said it anticipated the repairs to be completed by Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n
The city said the complex told officials the original issue had been fixed Friday. However, maintenance crews were still working on the HVAC system in Krystal\u2019s initial apartment on Tuesday afternoon when KSAT got to the property.<\/p>\n
Krystal said maintenance told her the unit was too small for the apartment and a larger system had been ordered.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not usually somebody who makes a big fuss about anything. But when it came to seeing my kids so uncomfortable, I had to,\u201d Krystal said.<\/p>\n
The city said it will return to the complex within 14 days to ensure the issue has been resolved. If the air conditioning is still not working, the complex could receive a citation. If the problem is fixed, the violation will be considered resolved.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs you know, the extreme summer temperatures have placed additional strain on air conditioning systems throughout the area,\u201d the apartment complex\u2019s spokesperson said. \u201cProperly working ACs are a priority for our team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Renters in dealing with a similar issue in San Antonio should first report it to their apartment complex. If the problem is not addressed, they can contact San Antonio Code Enforcement.<\/p>\n
