I’m getting pretty sick of these 98-degree days.

I’ve been dreaming about a cold day in Lubbock for months now.

I know they are coming.

When that glorious first cold day finally comes, there are some extremely important things that all of us, and I mean ALL of us, need to do:

1. Rejoice."personPhoto by Jo Jo on Unsplashperson wearing black leather strap watch

God has finally noticed that you’ve been sweating through your hoodies for weeks. The suffering has finally come to a close.

For now…

2. Wear a hoodie."personPhoto by Jeremy Weber on Unsplashperson in pullover hoodie

You may want to wash it first…

If you’re anything like me, you’ve already jumped the gun…and it’s been sweaty out there.

I’ve been posting a Lubbock Hoodie Report daily to let people know whether or not today is the day to bust them out.

It hasn’t happened yet, but I know it’s coming.

3. Thank your friends and family."APhoto by Kevin Butz on UnsplashA wooden sign painted with the words

They’ve been pretending not to notice your sweaty, funky aura while you’ve refused to take your hoodies off in the heat for several weeks now, and they deserve some big props.

4. Get a pumpkin spice something."aPhoto by Colin FitzGerald on Unsplasha bag of starbucks pumpkin spice sitting on top of a counter

Candle.

Drink.

Dog treat.

Whatever.

Get at least something pumpkin spicey.

5. Get a pumpkin."ManPhoto by Kelsey Todd on UnsplashMan is pulling a giant pumpkin in a cart

Pick one out that is a totally unreasonable size or shape, struggle to get it in the trunk of your car, and then leave it to rot on your porch for 3 months.

It’s tradition.

6. Turn on the fireplace."firePhoto by Hayden Scott on Unsplashfire wood on fireplace

It will probably be 78 degrees again tomorrow, but get that bad boy up and running.

It’ll really get you into the swing of things.

Unless there’s a bird in there…

In that case, repeat step #4 and grab some pumpkin spice air freshener to lighten the air… and the mood after the crime you just committed in front of your children.

RIP, Bird.

(This actually happened to me as a child, if you ever wondered WTF was wrong with me.)

7. Make something warm."personPhoto by Nathan Dumlao on Unsplashperson holding white ceramic bowl with soup

Chicken and dumplings are my favorite.

Chili might be yours.

As long as you eat it wrapped in a blanket, it’s officially a fall food.

8. Take a deep breath, relax, and do absolutely nothing."womanPhoto by Adrian Swancar on Unsplashwoman in pink jacket lying on gray couch

You just made it through one of the hottest summers we have ever had, and you deserve a break.

Soak up the Netflix in your favorite cozy jammies and pat yourself on the back.

Well done.
