It\u2019s Veterans Day, and there’s another way to honor those who served our country to ensure our freedom: donate a wreath to be placed at the gravesites at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.<\/p>\n
This year, 59,000 graves will need a wreath at the cemetery, and according to the Wreaths Across America website and organizers, that’s up from 58,600 last year. As of Monday, Nov. 10, Wreaths Across America reports about 20,000 wreaths have been sponsored so far and they’ll need another 39,000 sponsored to ensure every service member buried at the cemetery is honored.<\/p>\n
Wreath donations can be made at the link below through the NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 Veteran’s Network donation page. Donations for wreaths will be accepted through Nov. 28. The Wreaths Across America program receives no government funding and relies on donations.<\/p>\n
\tCLICK HERE to visit the NBC 5 & Telemundo 39 Veteran’s Network Wreaths Across America page<\/a><\/p>\n Veteran’s Network is an employee resource group within NBC Universal — Adam Garcia, the son of former NBCU member Cynthia Garcia, was mortally wounded in Iraq in 2006 and is buried at\u00a0DFW National Cemetery. Each year, Vet Net members volunteer to lay wreaths in the section where Garcia is buried.<\/p>\n How it all started at DFW National Cemetery<\/p>\n Mary and Chris Bush, of Frisco, started the local\u00a0Wreaths Across America\u00a0chapter the same year their son, Cpl. Peter Courcy was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009.<\/p>\n In the first year, they laid 250 wreaths. The endeavor has grown over the years, with wreaths laid at every single grave for the last five years — 2019, 2021<\/a>, 2022<\/a>, 2023<\/a> and 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n If you aren’t aware of the size of the\u00a0DFW National Cemetery<\/a>, it is one of the largest in the country, with a capacity of 280,000.<\/p>\n Wreath laying ceremony set for Dec. 13<\/p>\n The next big step is to lay the wreaths at each headstone. The fresh wreaths are all donated and placed at the headstones by volunteers and family members.<\/p>\n This year, the Wreaths Across America ceremony will take place at the cemetery on Dec. 13, 2025, at 11 a.m. There are several opportunities to volunteer to lay remembrance wreaths; you can learn more here.<\/a><\/p>\n
