Several areas southeast of Houston are reporting water discoloration due to recent rain brought by Tropical Storm Edouard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The storm made landfall earlier this month and brought heavy rain to our area.<\/p>\n

Friendswood, Webster, Deer Park, and League City were among the communties affected and associated Edouard’s rainfall with reported discoloration in their water systems. Residents in these areas may notice the water appear yellow or green, but officials say the water remains safe to drink.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Friendswood said it was aware of the reports of discoloration in its water distribution system, adding that it was advised by Houston city officials about elevated levels of what they call naturally occurring minerals in water.<\/p>\n

“The water is safe to drink and samples taken of our water system continue to meet or exceed regulatory standards,” the city said.<\/p>\n

Residents can call the City of Friendswood Public Works Department at 281-996-3380 or email them<\/a> with any questions or concerns.<\/p>\n

Officials in Webster, also aware of the water discoloration being reported, said its water quality meets Texas regulatory standards after testing its drinking water.<\/p>\n

“The water remains safe to drink,” their statement read, in part. “The City will continue monitoring water quality throughout the distribution system and will provide additional information if conditions change.”<\/p>\n

Deer Park officials said they were also addressing the “elevated water turbidity” through active water quality testing and water line flushing. They said the water treatment process remains effective and the finished drinking water is safe.<\/p>\n

Residents can contact the City of Deer Park Public Works Department at (281) 478-7270 with any questions.<\/p>\n

League City officials said the rain across the Trinity River Basin affected the “quality of the source water supplied to the City of Houston’s (COH) Southeast Water Purification Plant (SEWPP),” which they said provides a large portion of League City’s drinking water.<\/p>\n

The city added their water is also safe to drink.<\/p>\n

They said they will continue to monitor its quality and let residents know of any changes.<\/p>\n
