SAN ANTONIO — The man accused of shooting and killing actor Jonathan Joss outside his former South Side home is back in court today for a pre-trial hearing.

Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 56, is charged in the June 1, 2025, death of Joss, who was best known as the voice of John Redcorn on the animated series “King of the Hill.” Joss also played Chief Ken Hotate on “Parks and Recreation.”

Joss, whose legal name was Jonathan Joss Gonzales, was shot outside the mailbox at the property where his home once stood on Dorsey Street. The house had burned down months earlier and was later demolished.

Police said the shooting followed an argument between Joss and Alvarez, who lived nearby. According to the arrest report, Alvarez admitted to the shooting when officers arrived, telling them, “I shot him.” He was taken into custody without incident.

The shooting came after a long history of problems at the property and between neighbors. Records showed police had been called to the area more than 60 times for disturbances, welfare checks and mental health-related calls. Neighbors also described an ongoing feud between Joss and Alvarez.

Joss’ husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, previously said he believed the killing was a hate crime and that the couple had faced years of harassment because of their sexual orientation. San Antonio police said investigators found no evidence that Joss was killed because of his sexual orientation.

The property itself had also been the focus of problems before Joss’ death. The city had ordered the house demolished before a January 2025 fire heavily damaged the structure. It was demolished days later.

Alvarez faces up to life in prison if convicted.

SAN ANTONIO — The man accused of shooting and killing actor Jonathan Joss outside his former South Side…

[8
82,84,83
post-438837","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio-headlines","tag-san-antonio-news
["GET
