AUSTIN, Texas – A Texas Longhorns football coach was arrested for DWI after a car crash in Austin.<\/p>\n
Johnny Nansen DWI arrest <\/p>\n
The backstory:<\/p>\n
Police said on Sept. 16, around 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a three-car crash in the 700 block of S. Capitol of Texas Hwy.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officers contacted the driver of one of the cars, identified as 52-year-old Johnny Nansen.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nansen displayed signs consistent with possible impairment, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers conducted standard field sobriety tests and saw multiple clues of impairment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nansen was then arrested for DWI.<\/p>\n

Nansen is currently the co-defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach for the Texas Longhorns football team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He has held the position since 2024.<\/p>\n
Before coaching at UT, Nansen was the defensive coordinator at Arizona. He\u2019s also coached on both sides of the ball and special teams throughout his career.<\/p>\n
Nansen was a three-year letterman linebacker at Washington state himself.<\/p>\n

What they’re saying:<\/p>\n
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned Nansen’s arrest at a team press conference on Thursday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We are obviously aware of the situation. I’m still gathering facts. I’m still monitoring the situation,” said head coach Steve Sarkisian. “We’re obviously disappointed, but that’s all I really have about that at this time.”<\/p>\n
He also noted that Nansen was not at Thursday’s practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nansen’s status for this weekend’s game is still up in the air.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got other staff members on staff and the choices and decisions they make off the field. And so, we’ve got to learn from one other, but I don’t think that it takes away from what an incredible win and incredible environment we had last Saturday night,” said Sark.<\/p>\n
