{"id":440046,"date":"2026-09-18T14:52:18","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T14:52:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/440046\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T14:52:18","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T14:52:18","slug":"major-loop-1604-bridge-set-to-be-demolished-heres-when","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/440046\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Major&#8217; Loop 1604 bridge set to be demolished \u2014 here&#8217;s when"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More traffic woes are in store for San Antonio drivers along Loop 16404 this weekend.\u00a0The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will demolish a &#8220;major&#8221; section of the old Loop 1604 bridge over Interstate 10 as work continues on the $1.4 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/traffic\/article\/loop-1604-closure-22211802.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Loop 1604 North Expansion Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The agency says drivers may want to give themselves additional time for travel, as construction on the bridge will bring about a series of closures on the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, September 18, through 5 a.m. on Monday, September, 21.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Both the east and westbound Loop 1604 frontage roads will be closed at the interchange through the weekend. Additionally, the eastbound and westbound mainlanes on I-10 will be closed at the interchange while TxDOT crews demolish the bridge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Drivers won&#8217;t be completely cut off from access along the highway. All flyover ramps, the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes and the eastbound and westbound I-10 frontage roads will remain open over the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The transportation department says that the demolition marks another big milestone for the expansion project, which is intended to alleiveate traffic congestion and increase mobility on the rapidly developing thoroughfare, which according to TxDOT is one of the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.txdot.gov\/projects\/projects-studies\/san-antonio\/loop1604.html\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">most congested corridors in the state<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>TxDOT says that the weekend closures are estimated to be the minimum amount of time required for work.
