{"id":440679,"date":"2026-09-19T04:34:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-19T04:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/440679\/"},"modified":"2026-09-19T04:34:14","modified_gmt":"2026-09-19T04:34:14","slug":"paramour-rooftop-bar-owners-locked-out-of-building-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/440679\/","title":{"rendered":"Paramour rooftop bar owners locked out of building again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The owners of a swanky rooftop bar have been locked out of the building for a third time in two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Martin Phipps and his wife, Julisa, who own <a href=\"https:\/\/paramourbar.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Paramour at the Phipps<\/a> and its restaurant Colette, were locked out of the property at 102 Ninth St. on Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Notices on the bar\u2019s doors stated that the owners were delinquent on rent and that the locks had been changed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In July, the bar announced it\u2019s preparing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/news\/article\/paramour-rooftop-bar-closure-vacate-relocate-legal-22366989.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pause operations at the location<\/a>, while it plans \u201cthe next evolution of this iconic San Antonio night spot,\u201d according to a social media post. It has yet to reveal its final day of service, and an attorney for the landlord, CDC Enterprises LP, said the bar owners have not shared a timeframe for the move.<\/p>\n<p>The landlord \u201chas illegally locked us out three times,\u201d Julisa Phipps said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Phipps and CDC have been entangled in a long-simmering legal battle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Phipps lost a jury trial last year in a lawsuit brought by building owner CDC Enterprises LP. The jury directed Phipps to pay more than $1.2 million in damages and attorneys\u2019 fees to CDC.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/article\/paramour-martin-phipps-law-firm-lockout-21952263.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">escalated again in March<\/a> this year when CDC once more locked out Paramour and Phipps\u2019 law firm, this time over alleged unpaid rent and common-area maintenance charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On March 18, a judge <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/article\/paramour-martin-phipps-law-firm-unlawful-eviction-21974149.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ruled the lockout was unlawful<\/a> because the landlord failed to provide proper notice, though she noted CDC could still pursue eviction through other legal avenues, saying there were \u201cother remedies to get them out.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is now the second time a court has rejected a lockout involving the parties, including the June 2024 lockout, because the lease was not followed, proper notice was not given, and the charges relied on were not supported,\u201d Roger Legrand, a spokesman for Phipps, said in a text at the time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In July,\u00a0CDC filed an eviction action against Holy Spirits LLC, which does business as Paramour.
