Residents of the Factory Design District apartments, also known as the Alexan Riveredge Apartments, on Turtle Creek Blvd have provided to WFAA a message reportedly from building management that says residents have to continue to wait to re-enter the building as a damaged gas line is worked on by Atmos Energy, who found the line rupture earlier this evening.

Initially setting these events in motion was a small fire that Dallas Fire-Rescue reports occurred at about 3:06 p.m. The fire was located on the fourth floor of the 5-story building, but it caused no injuries and only minimal damage, DFR says. Still, the fire led Atmos to perform what DFR called a “routine inspection” following the fire’s extinguishing. During that inspection the gas leak was found.

WFAA has reached out to Atmos regarding its inspection but has not heard back as of Friday night.

Atmos has remained at the building, according to DFR, even though the leak hasn’t reportedly caused readings of significant gas activity in the building. DFR did have to cut power off to the building when the leak was located and it will have to authorize restoration of the power prior to residents coming back into the building, according to building management.

“At this time, we appreciate your cooperation as we continue working closely with the Dallas Fire Department to ensure the safety of all residents and the building,” the building management’s statement reads.

Building management also says the Dallas Office of Emergency Management remains available at the scene to assist residents who are in need of water, shelter or additional support. DFR has told WFAA that DART has provided buses to give residents a cool place to sit while the evacuation remains. A WFAA photojournalist at the scene observed many residents simply sitting on benches or on the sidewalk or in grassy areas near the building.

This is a developing story check back for updates.

A gas leak has forced residents of a Design District apartment building to gather unexpectedly in another warm…

[9
108348,21523,152664,102,9379,104,103,16514,152665,13111,152666,126
post-440891","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dallas","tag-apartment-building","tag-atmos-energy","tag-building-management","tag-dallas","tag-dallas-fire-rescue","tag-dallas-headlines","tag-dallas-news","tag-design-district","tag-district-apartments","tag-gas-leak","tag-routine-inspection","tag-wfaa
["GET
