A Mexican lawful permanent resident in Texas was arrested after being accused of unlawfully voting and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship<\/a>, according to the Department of Homeland Security.<\/a><\/p>\n

Homeland Security Investigations agents in El Paso arrested Ludwig Uriel Espejo-Carrillo on Sept. 3, DHS announced Sept. 17.<\/a> Espejo-Carrillo was administratively charged with unlawful voting and making a false claim to U.S. citizenship in connection with voting in U.S. elections in 2015.<\/p>\n

Espejo-Carrillo became a lawful permanent resident of the United States in July 2013, according to DHS.<\/p>\n

Ludwig Uriel Espejo-Carrillo was arrested in El Paso and administratively charged with alleged unlawful voting and false claim to U.S. citizenship.<\/p>\n

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin<\/a> said the administration would continue pursuing cases involving noncitizens accused of voting in U.S. elections.<\/p>\n

“This is what a threat to our republic looks like. We cannot and will not allow the votes of American citizens to be cancelled out by non-citizens illegally voting in our elections,” Mullin said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Espejo-Carrillo remains in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody pending removal proceedings, according to DHS. Mullin added that the administration would seek to deport Espejo-Carrillo.<\/p>\n
