{"id":441131,"date":"2026-09-19T15:04:19","date_gmt":"2026-09-19T15:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/441131\/"},"modified":"2026-09-19T15:04:19","modified_gmt":"2026-09-19T15:04:19","slug":"senate-confirms-dallas-attorney-kasdin-mitchell-to-federal-bench","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/441131\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate confirms Dallas attorney Kasdin Mitchell to federal bench"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON \u2014 Dallas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/courts\/article\/kirkland-ellis-end-supplying-u-s-attorney-judge-22265100.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attorney\u00a0Kasdin Mitchell<\/a> is joining the federal bench in the Northern District of Texas after the Senate voted 49-45 this week to confirm her nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell is a litigation partner with Kirkland &amp; Ellis in its Dallas office, where she\u2019s represented companies such as Facebook, Dow Inc. and Boeing. Before that, she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>Sens. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/john-cornyn\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Cornyn<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/ted-cruz\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ted Cruz<\/a>, both Texas Republicans, recommended Mitchell for the position after a review of the candidate pool by a bipartisan panel of attorneys the senators have established.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKasdin Mitchell is a well-regarded litigator and a former clerk for some of our nation\u2019s sharpest legal minds, and it\u2019s no surprise that President Trump selected her to serve as a U.S. District Judge,\u201d Cornyn said in a news release after the vote.<\/p>\n<p>The vote fell along party lines, with no Democrats supporting the nomination and no Republicans opposing it.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Judiciary Committee this week held confirmation hearings for two other Texas U.S. District judge nominees.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Bennett has been nominated to the Southern District of Texas, while Courtney Coker has been nominated to the Northern District of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Coker was promoted last year to first assistant U.S. attorney general for the Northern District of Texas after serving as the deputy criminal chief there.<\/p>\n<p>Coker has served as a prosecutor in Puerto Rico, Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi.
