You scroll through Facebook, see their city skylines, their shiny homes with REAL trees, their amazing brunches with people you\u2019ll never know, and you think for a split second\u2014maybe I should\u2019ve gone too (or stayed gone, in my case.)<\/p>\n<p>But then the wind kicks up that smell of red dirt and rain, and suddenly you remember why you\u2019re still around.<\/p>\n<p>Staying Isn\u2019t Settling<\/p>\n<p>People love to romanticize \u201cgetting out.\u201d They call it growth, ambition, chasing dreams. And maybe it is. I tried it for years, but somehow found my way back. Staying put in Lubbock and building a life here, loving this flawed, funny, dusty corner of Texas\u2014takes its own kind of courage. It\u2019s not about fear or comfort; it\u2019s about roots. About knowing that home doesn\u2019t have to be fancy to be sacred.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about remembering that everywhere you go, there you are. Home is just as good as anywhere else. It really is.<\/p>\n<p>You know the same folks at the coffee shop, the same potholes in the same roads. You\u2019ve watched the skyline change just enough to notice, but not enough to take away from the beautiful sunsets. There\u2019s beauty in that kind of consistency. You stayed through political turmoil, scorching summers, and the days that felt like the world had all but forgotten us here. You stayed for the backyard laughs, the sunsets over nothing, the smell of cut mesquite.<\/p>\n<p>You stayed because, deep down, this place still feels like you.<\/p>\n<p>And maybe that\u2019s the real dream after all\u2014not to run, but to belong so deeply that you don\u2019t have to. It\u2019s special. Not everyone can say they stayed put through all of the ups and downs of this city.
