Santa Rosa St., is the sister concept to Magpie, the acclaimed East Side restaurant owned by chef Jngsk “Sue” Kim and her husband, Eugene Sanchez.

Kim was named a 2026 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Texas for her work at Magpie, a recognition that put her among the state’s most celebrated culinary talent. While Magpie is known for its more elevated, ever-changing menu, Golden Goose gives diners a more casual way to experience Kim’s creative cooking.

Sanchez said The Golden Goose was shaped by a difficult moment for the restaurant industry.

Magpie opened for dinner service in January 2020, just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic forced restaurants across San Antonio to close dining rooms and quickly rethink how they served customers. Sanchez said the couple had to pivot fast, creating food that could work for takeout and delivery.

That experience eventually led to The Golden Goose: a restaurant built around flavorful, approachable dishes that travel well but are still worth sitting down for.

The menu is intentionally focused, and every item feels like it has a reason to be there.

Sanchez said the restaurant’s yuringi fried chicken is one of The Golden Goose’s signature dishes, and the reason the concept exists in the first place. The chicken is fried until crispy, but still juicy inside, and served with a bright, savory sauce that cuts through the richness.

“The reason this restaurant exists is because of the fried chicken,” Sanchez said.

Korean Hot Chicken, The Golden Goose

The spicy pork bulgogi is another favorite, bringing heat, sweetness, and deep savory flavor to a Korean classic. Golden Goose is designed to bring some of that energy downtown, a place where people can meet after work, stop in for dinner before an event, or make a meal out of trying several dishes with friends.

For downtown workers, it is an easy lunch option that offers more personality than another fast-casual chain. For visitors and locals exploring the area, it is a chance to try food from a James Beard-recognized chef without needing a fine-dining reservation.

Golden Goose proves that quick-service food does not have to mean bland or forgettable.

The restaurant delivers the kind of bold, comforting flavors that make people want to order one more dish — or come back the next day to do it all over again.

Golden Goose is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.

For more information or to check out their menu, visit their website.

SAN ANTONIO — Downtown San Antonio has plenty of places to grab lunch or dinner, but The Golden…

[8
82,84,83
post-442485","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio","tag-san-antonio-headlines","tag-san-antonio-news
["GET
