HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — An off-duty deputy shot a man suspected of breaking into her neighbor’s home while they were out of town, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.<\/p>\n

According to HCSO, detectives responded to the 7200 block of Rio Blanco Road in the Mission Bend area shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Investigators said the deputy reported her neighbor was out of town, and when she checked on the house because she believed it was being burglarized, she found a man inside.<\/p>\n

The deputy told investigators that when she confronted the suspect, he attempted to disarm her, so she shot him in the upper body, according to HCSO.<\/p>\n

The sheriff’s office said the man was flown to the hospital with critical injuries.<\/p>\n

The deputy, who investigators said has 14 years of experience in law enforcement, had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.<\/p>\n

HCSO said an investigation is underway.<\/p>\n
