The park says no one was hurt and trained staff walked riders off the track after the train came to rest at a designated stopping point.

A park spokesperson said the stop lasted about 50 minutes, including the time it took to unload guests and reset the ride. The coaster returned to service the same night. Officials described the halt as a technical delay, comparing it to a check-engine light, and said the ride’s control system is designed not to keep running when a sensor is triggered.

The stop happened at the Arlington theme park in Tarrant County, about 72 days after Tormenta opened to the public on July 9. The 309-foot dive coaster is billed as the tallest, fastest and longest of its kind, with a 285-foot, 95-degree first drop, a top speed of 87 mph and 4,199 feet of track. It sits in the park’s Spain section, now called Rancho de la Tormenta, and replaced older attractions including La Vibora.

The ride’s debut was already delayed once. Six Flags had planned a late-June opening, then postponed it while commissioning and testing ran longer than expected. Park officials said at the time they wanted the attraction ready before guests boarded.

Saturday’s stop is the kind of mid-ride pause that can look alarming from the ground, especially on a coaster that towers over the Arlington skyline. Six Flags said guests were unloaded under staff supervision and that safety systems performed as designed. The park did not identify which sensor triggered the stop or where on the layout the train halted.

Texas amusement-ride rules do not require parks to file a public incident report for a controlled stop with no injuries. Local emergency agencies were not reported as part of the response.

Tormenta remains one of the park’s signature draws for the 2026 season. Six Flags Over Texas has not announced any extended closure tied to Saturday’s stop.

LISTEN on the Audacy App
Tell your Smart Speaker to “PLAY 1080 KRLD”
Sign Up to receive our KRLD Insider Newsletter for more news
Follow us on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube

ARLINGTON, Texas — Six Flags Over Texas says its new record-breaking coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run, stopped mid-ride Saturday…

[13
150,152,151
post-443096","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-arlington","tag-arlington","tag-arlington-headlines","tag-arlington-news
["GET
