Some lucky Dallasites saw rain Sunday<\/a>, but that rain didn\u2019t reach everyone \u2014 including Dallas-Fort Worth\u2019s official climate site at the DFW International Airport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thunderstorms<\/a> moved through parts of North Texas Sunday afternoon and evening, but the DFW International Airport registered only a trace of rain, which does not break the dry streak.\u00a0<\/p>\n

DFW Airport, the region\u2019s official climate site, has not recorded measurable precipitation since July 15, according to the National Weather Service\u2019s records<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The weather service defines measurable precipitation as more than 0.01 inches of rain. Anything below that threshold is recorded as a \u201ctrace\u201d and does not break a dry streak.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since Sunday was recorded<\/a> as a trace amount of rainfall, Dallas-Fort Worth has tied<\/a> the 2022 record of 67 days without measurable precipitation, which ranks as the second-longest on record.<\/p>\n

D-FW\u2019s longest dry streak on record<\/a> occurred in 2000, when the region went 84 consecutive days without measurable rain.<\/p>\n

North Texas had a chance to break its record-setting streak today<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Widely scattered storms were forecast to hit parts of D-FW, with a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. The main storm hazards include gusty winds, small hail and frequent lightning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNot everyone will see rain today, but a few storms could become strong to severe through this evening,\u201d the weather service said in its Monday forecast.<\/p>\n

The weather service said the region could see rain this weekend or early next week, as a weak cold front could move in.
