Texas women’s basketball<\/a> cruised to a 100-38 victory Monday night over Louisiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Longhorns are coming off a ranked win Friday over the\u00a0No. 24 Richmond Spiders<\/a> and they picked up where they left off. Center Kyla Oldacre came off the bench for a 19-point performance and, the Longhorns rolled to victory over the winless Ragin’ Cajuns.<\/p>\n

No. 4 Texas (3-0) had five players in double figures, and while they limited Louisiana (0-3) to 38 points, there is still work that needs to be done, according to head coach Vic Schaefer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We’ve got a long way to go defensively, but we’ll take the win,” he\u00a0said after the game.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The offense is dynamic and the Longhorns’ motion worked well for 62 points in the paint. But Texas’ smothering defense led to 53 points combined from turnovers and fast break points.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I thought our bigs were good offensively,” Schaefer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oldacre and transfer forwards Teya Sidberry and Breya Cunningham combined for\u00a038 points. But Cunningham’s 14 rebounds helped the Longhorns notch 21 second chance points because no Ragin’ Cajun could out rebound Cunningham or the Longhorns who finished the night with 39 total to Louisiana’s 27.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But there was one part of the offense that was a cause of concern for Schaefer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We know we got a lot of offensive weapons… free throws continue to be an Achilles for our team,” Schaefer said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oldacre shot 5 of 12 from the charity stripe, contributing to a 64.3% free throw shooting percentage on the night. The Longhorns shot 75.6% from\u00a0the line last season.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns play Texas Southern on Sunday next and with a full week to prepare, Schaefer is not worried about what the Longhorns can do, especially since the season is three games young.<\/p>\n

“We’ll get after it in the morning… let’s go dominate,” he said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Longhorns call a timeout. Texas’ lineup is all bench players who are containing the Cajuns on the court and Louisiana’s chances of scoring are either beating someone baseline or a deep jumper.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Texas holds for the final shot of the quarter but Preston doesn’t get the bounce.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ragin Cajuns call a time out after multiple iterations of keep-away from the Longhorns who kept tipping the ball somehow into the hands of Louisiana.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rori Harmon has back-to-back steals to put the Longhorns up by a lot. Cajuns continue to chip away at the lead from the free throw line, but their offense cannot get anything going because of Texas’ defense.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Louisiana started the second half in a zone and Texas takes advantage with Jordan Lee and\u00a0Aaliyah Crump\u00a0draining a 3-point shot to extend the lead.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Texas bobbles a pass into the paint but the ball is dropped and gives Louisiana the last shot, which they miss.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A common foul on Louisiana is upgraded to a Flagrant I and Madison Booker sinks both free throws. Oldacre scores on a flare to the basket on a high pass from Booker.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Teya Sidberry’s block on a drive is the exclamation point on Texas forcing\u00a0a Louisiana shot clock violation. The Longhorn defense has generated 18 turnovers for Louisiana compared to their eight.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Texas is starting to play sloppy defense and fouling Louisiana which gets them to the free throw line. But the Cajuns defense continues to be\u00a0detrimental for them Preston is fouled on a layup\u00a0and she drains the free throw to extend the lead. A timeout is called after a tie up.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A couple of bobbled possessions from the Longhorns but the Longhorns continue to stay aggressive on offense and get the Cajuns into foul trouble under the basket. The Longhorns are getting to the free throw line but are shooting 56.3% from the charity stripe.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Oldacre finds the line after chucking up a shot at the final seconds of the quarter but misses both.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Texas’ defense have been relentless and is using its full court press early to score 10 points off turnovers so far.\u00a0Rori Harmon’s pressure forced a UL backcout violation after pressuring her to touch the ball rolling down the court.\u00a0<\/p>\n
