Hundreds of Texans will be without work after a Boerne-based freight service that partnered with Amazon shuts down operations.<\/p>\n
4XH Logistics\u00a0LLC is laying off 230 workers\u00a0starting Nov. 6 as part of its\u00a0“ramp down provisions,” CEO Gabriel Hilario wrote in a Sept. 10 Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification<\/a> letter to the Texas Workforce Commission and to Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. Hilario did not respond to requests for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n The layoffs are expected to be completed by Nov. 19.<\/p>\n The delivery company and Amazon delivery service partner operated out of an\u00a0office at 1415 E. Blanco 7 in Boerne. The\u00a0U.S. Department of Transportation registration system<\/a> shows an active registration for 20 trucks. It is unclear if those included the subcontracted freights with Amazon.\u00a0<\/p>\n As a partner with the e-commerce giant, 4XH often handled the final leg of deliveries out of Amazon’s\u00a0warehouse on the Southwest Side.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/p>\n Private mail provider closing San Antonio facility, laying off 164 workers<\/a><\/p>\n The freight company was hiring delivery drivers as recently as July<\/a>, with one job posting offering a starting hourly wage of $19.30<\/a>. The freight company scored a 2.8-star rating on Indeed, with comments ranging from a five-star review citing good pay and a flexible schedule to a one-star review that said it was “a terrible company to work for.”\u00a0<\/p>\n The closure comes amid layoffs across the freight industry, as factories are consolidated and operations shift.\u00a0FreightWaves reported<\/a> that there are at least 1,222 jobs in the freight economy being eliminated as a result.<\/p>\n Amazon accounted for nearly 500 of those jobs, which are tied to the temporary closure\u00a0its Port St. Lucie facility in Florida. But because that facility is undergoing a $200 million renovation, those layoffs aren’t expected to be permanent, unlike most of the others in the report.\u00a0<\/p>\n Despite the shifts across the industry, Amazon announced last week<\/a> it plans to boost its starting hourly wage a dollar to $20 ahead of the holiday shopping season. The pay boost is for its full-time core operations employees, who handle jobs like packing and shipping orders. Because the $1 an hour pay boost is across the board, the average pay for those employees will rise to nearly $24.
