It’s Been A Tough Year(s) For Lubbock

Let’s face it: it hasn’t been an easy year for a lot of people. The cost of just about everything seems to keep going up, while paychecks aren’t always keeping pace. When families have to find ways to save money, one of the first things to go is often eating out.

That’s understandable, but it can be tough news for local restaurants. When fewer people are coming through the doors, restaurants are still dealing with the same rising costs for food, supplies, rent, utilities, and employees. Eventually, some businesses simply can’t make the numbers work.

Not Every Restaurant Closed for the Same Reason

Of course, money isn’t always the reason a restaurant closes. Especially when it comes to locally owned, mom-and-pop restaurants, there can be plenty of other reasons to walk away.

Maybe the owners found another opportunity. Maybe they’re ready to retire after years of working long hours. Sometimes a move, a family decision, or another major life change means it’s simply time to close the doors. And sometimes they simply lose the lease.

Whatever the reason, it’s still sad to see a familiar sign come down.

So, here’s a look at the restaurants that have closed in Lubbock during 2026 so far. The good news is that new restaurants continue to open their doors, but hopefully this list won’t get much longer before the year is over. Here’s hoping we don’t have to say goodbye to too many more local favorites.
