Arnold &#8220;Buddy&#8221; Atkinson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Corpus Christi police said Water Street between Park Street and Hancock Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard between Buford Street and Park Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the funeral.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police are asking drivers to use caution and find alternate routes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Atkinson served the Corpus Christi Fire Department for 29 years, working at Firehouses 1, 10, and 11 before spending the final 20 years of his career at Firehouse 13.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The department announced his passing on Sept. 9, remembering him for his leadership, work ethic\u00a0and\u00a0sense of humor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Captain Atkinson had a profound impact on the people he served alongside,&#8221; the department shared in its tribute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Fire officials said Atkinson mentored many firefighters throughout his career, leaving a lasting impact on the department and those who worked with him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Atkinson had been battling occupational cancer for several months.
