Children\u2019s Medical Center Plano has received a $2 million donation to expand pediatric cancer and blood disorder care as demand for specialized health services continues to grow across North Texas.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Children\u2019s Medical Center<\/a> Foundation, the fundraising arm of Children\u2019s Health, announced<\/a> the gift from Hogs for the Cause, a nonprofit supporting families of children with cancer. The donation is the third-largest capital gift ever received by the Plano campus.<\/p>\n

In recognition of the donation, the outpatient unit within the Pauline Allen Gill Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children\u2019s Medical Center Plano will be named the Hogs for the Cause<\/a> Outpatient Unit.<\/p>\n

The funding will help expand clinical capabilities for cancer and blood disorders while increasing inpatient and outpatient capacity. The Gill Center, which operates at Children\u2019s Medical Center Plano and Children\u2019s Medical Center Dallas, treats more than 2,000 new patients each year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis financial commitment from Hogs boosts what\u2019s possible for families facing childhood cancer by surrounding them with care, comfort, and community when they need it most,\u201d Children\u2019s Medical Center Foundation President Brent Christopher said. \u201cAs North Texas continues to grow, so does the need for specialized care near kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Children\u2019s Health opened its Plano campus in 2008 to serve growing communities in Collin and Denton counties. The hospital expanded<\/a> significantly in December 2024 with the opening of a 395,000-square-foot patient tower.<\/p>\n

The expansion added 140 inpatient beds, increasing the Plano campus from 72 to 212 beds, and expanded specialty programs including the Gill Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cSupporting families facing childhood cancer is at the heart of everything we do, and this partnership with Children\u2019s Health allows that mission to reach even further,\u201d Hogs for the Cause co-founder and CEO Becker Hall said. \u201cOur $2 million investment in the expansion of Children\u2019s Medical Center Plano is a commitment to ensuring that every child has access to world-class care close to home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Founded in 2009, Hogs for the Cause raises money for families affected by pediatric cancer through community events and barbecue culture.
