{"id":445808,"date":"2026-09-24T03:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-24T03:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/445808\/"},"modified":"2026-09-24T03:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-24T03:14:10","slug":"houston-approves-funding-for-recovery-center-homeless-program-heights-river-oaks-montrose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/445808\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston approves funding for recovery center homeless program | Heights &#8211; River Oaks &#8211; Montrose"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Houston approved using some of its homelessness funding to address critical needs such as mental health, substance use and immediate medical concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The overview<\/p>\n<p>At the Sept. 23 meeting, Houston City Council authorized the city to provide $667,540 from its <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/heights-river-oaks-montrose\/government\/houston-to-increase-funding-for-homeless-initiatives-by-107-in-2027\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">End Street Homelessness funds<\/a> for the Houston Recovery Center, which will help up to 600 individuals annually. The services include:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>24\/7 operations of 34 beds for homeless individuals<\/p>\n<p>Supportive services to address mental health needs, immediate medical concerns and case management<\/p>\n<p>Substance use treatment<\/p>\n<p>Pathways to stable housing<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of times we talk about how homelessness is a housing issue and not a criminal issue, and this is an ordinance that is hoping to solve just that,\u201d District C council member Joe Panzarella said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The initial agreement began in August 2025, and the new amendment extends through September 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The local impact<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/houstonrecoverycenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Houston Recovery Center<\/a> is a sobering center that acts as an alternative to jail.
