All lanes of U.S. 287 in Fort Worth are closed Wednesday evening following a fatal crash, police said.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth police responded to the crash around 6 p.m. in the 3500 block of Martin Luther King Freeway, police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

A garbage truck exited the highway and struck several supporting pillars of the bridge over Erath Street, police said. The driver was thrown from the truck and died at the scene. A passenger was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.<\/p>\n

Because of the crash underneath the overpass, all southbound<\/a> lanes of 287 remain closed at Erath Street, police said at about 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

All northbound traffic is detoured at the Wilbarger Street exit while southbound traffic<\/a> is detoured at Berry Street and Vaughn Boulevard. The main lanes will remain closed overnight, the Texas Department of Transportation said in a social media post.<\/p>\n

The investigation is ongoing, police said.<\/p>\n
