Well, we’re basically there already, and what says “Halloween” more than mutilating vegetables and displaying their carved carcasses? So, when it comes to finding the best pumpkin patches in town, where do the pros visit first?

I’ll also go over some ideas of what to do with your pumpkins after Halloween is over, so stay tuned.

Lubbock’s Best Pumpkin Patches

Anyone living in Lubbock for over a year has heard of some excellent spots each fall season to find pumpkins, so let’s go over a few of the main ones.

First, the big one: At’l Do Farms. I go here every year to get my pumpkins from their patch. Admission is always reasonable since they also offer a petting zoo and a corn maze for the whole family.

The Pickin’ Patch is another great option hosted by The Springs Fellowship Church. Admission for this one is free, by the way.

Finally, Old MacDonald’s Petting and Family Fun Farm hosts their annual pumpkin patch in the fall with free train rides and mini pumpkins for all. How fun is that?

What To Do With Leftover Pumpkins

Now, after you’ve picked and carved your pumpkins, what do you do with the leftover waste?

Well, the frugal pumpkin-enthusiast who runs raiseyourgarden.com has a few great ideas.

First, those pesky seeds can prove annoying when gutting and preparing your Halloween pumpkin, so what better way to deal with them than to eat them! That’s right, roasted pumpkin seeds are always a great snack around the house. Growing up, I always thought they tasted like popcorn.

Another option to deal with leftover pumpkins is to return it to nature. Feeding the scraps to nearby wildlife or tossing them in a compost pile are great ways to kill two birds with one stone: rid yourself of the waste while providing a nutritious snack to the soil/local fauna.

Baking pumpkin pies with fresh ingredients is also a great idea, but my absolute favorite from the list involves getting artistic. Did you know that you can create bird feeders out of a carved pumpkin?

It’s really not that hard. All it takes is adding some bird seed to the bottom of a hollow pumpkin and hanging it up outside. Just make sure you carve some holes into the front beforehand so birds have a way of getting in and out. Then, as it decomposes, you can let it get absorbed into the ground or leave it as a meal for wildlife.

So, there you go! However you celebrate Halloween here in Lubbock, keep in mind these great options for pumpkin patches and these tips on what to do after you’ve carved them.

38 Pumpkin Colors You Need to Try Instead of Boring Orange

Try these 38 colorful pumpkin and squash varieties if you’re looking get something other than orange this year.

Gallery Credit: Rob Carroll

9 Beautiful Lubbock Parks To Stroll Through To Burn Off Pesky Calories

These are some really great places to burn calories and enjoy nature in Lubbock.

Gallery Credit: Chrissy

Highest-Rated Ice Cream Shops in Lubbock by DinersStacker compiled a list of the highest-rated ice cream shops in the Lubbock area using data from Yelp.

Gallery Credit: Stacker

It’s officially spooky season in Lubbock.
