HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A rape suspect was sentenced to 22 years in prison for sexually assaulting a woman in front of her husband in 2023, according to FBI Houston.<\/p>\n

According to FBI officials, Jose Luis Reyes-Martinez hid from police inside an innocent family’s home after a botched armed robbery of a Fiesta Mart in the Aldine area. Reyes-Martinez tied up both homeowners before sexually assaulting a woman at gunpoint in front of her husband.<\/p>\n

ABC13 covered the case before in 2024 in connection with the Houston Police Department’s scandal regarding sexual assault case investigations being suspended.<\/p>\n

The victim had given police the suspect’s name, address, license plate, and even submitted physical evidence collected from her body, according to ABC13’s news partners at the Houston Chronicle.<\/p>\n

The case stalled as HPD put it on hold because of staffing shortages.<\/p>\n

A year later, police say that Reyes-Martinez went on a crime spree and is accused of raping another woman.<\/p>\n

Federal investigators said they were able to tie the two sexual assaults together because of the DNA evidence submitted from the first victim.<\/p>\n

According to the FBI, Reyes was convicted of using a gun in a crime, stealing a vehicle, robbery, and re-entering the country illegally.<\/p>\n
