SAN ANTONIO \u2013 Sarah Carabias Rush\u2019s path to becoming president and CEO of greater:SATX started thousands of miles away from San Antonio \u2014 in Alaska. <\/p>\n
During this episode of \u201cPickup Lines,\u201d Rush told KSAT\u2019s Ernie Zuniga that her mother left Oklahoma for Alaska looking for something different, and her father followed. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad decided he couldn\u2019t live without her, followed her up there, which is a really sweet story,\u201d Rush said. <\/p>\n
While living in Anchorage as a small child, Rush said former Pope St. John Paul II even blessed her during a visit.<\/p>\n
Rush\u2019s family later settled in Norman, Oklahoma, where she grew up with two English professors. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe debated, we read books like crazy, we had great dinner time conversations,\u201d Rush said.<\/p>\n
Rush attended Austin College in Sherman and studied abroad in Costa Rica, Chile and Spain. After college, she moved to Dallas and took an administrative assistant position with the Dallas Chamber after initially applying for a director-level job. She was recruited to San Antonio and arrived in 2022.<\/p>\n
Today, Rush leads greater:SATX, which works to attract employers and investment to the 10-county San Antonio region while also expanding workforce opportunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur job is to sell the San Antonio region … to try to bring more employers here, create more job opportunities,\u201d Rush said.<\/p>\n
Rush believes the region has plenty of room to grow. <\/p>\n
\u201cSan Antonio is so well positioned, and we have nothing but runway,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
She also predicts San Antonio and Austin will become increasingly connected and could eventually be classified as a \u201cmega region\u201d sometime between 2040 and 2050.<\/p>\n
