CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 This week, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) began routine maintenance on three bridges along the JFK Causeway.<\/p>\n
According to TxDOT spokesperson Rickey Dailey, the project includes work on the Humble Channel, West Laguna Madre and East Relief Channel bridges. That means the roadwork will stretch from Aquarius Street to the Flour Bluff exit.<\/p>\n
Starting in December, Dailey said contractors will begin work on the travel lanes at the Humble Bridge, or midsection. The work will lead to daytime single-lane closures, starting with the westbound outside lane, then the inside lane, before switching to the eastbound outside and inside lanes.<\/p>\n
For many islanders, the JFK Causeway is their lifeline to the mainland.<\/p>\n
This type of work isn\u2019t new for drivers. The previous JFK Bridge project took a little more than three years to complete and also required single-lane closures.<\/p>\n
Dailey said the closures will not take place on weekends, holidays or during major island events to minimize disruptions.<\/p>\n
TxDOT officials said the maintenance project will continue through early next year. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and expect minor delays while work is underway.<\/p>\n
