<\/p>\nA Saturday gathering in Oak Cliff will honor Norlan Guzman and Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez with a community altar at the site of their mural.<\/p>\n
DALLAS \u2014 One year after a gunman opened fire at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, the families of two men killed in the attack are still living with grief and unanswered questions.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, members of the Oak Cliff community will gather to remember Norlan Guzman, 37, and Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, who died after being shot during the Sept. 24, 2025 attack.<\/p>\n

The community event will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hu\u00edtzitzilin Caf\u00e9. Organizers will also create a community altar at the site of a mural honoring the two men.<\/p>\n
For Berenice Prieto, Guzman-Fuentes’ widow, the mural has become a place to remember her husband.<\/p>\n
In an interview with WFAA on Thursday, she said she visits the corner of Jefferson Boulevard two or three times a week.<\/p>\n
“It’s to remember them,” Prieto said in Spanish.<\/p>\n
Guzman was among three men in ICE custody who were shot during the attack outside the agency’s Dallas facility along North Stemmons Freeway.<\/p>\n
The gunman, identified by authorities as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn of Fairview, fired from a nearby rooftop toward the facility’s sally port, where detainees were being transported.<\/p>\n
Federal officials said Jahn had targeted ICE personnel. Authorities later said notes left by Jahn indicated he wanted to terrorize ICE agents. No ICE personnel were injured in the shooting.<\/p>\n
Guzman, who was from El Salvador, died at the scene.<\/p>\n
The two other men shot were Garcia-Hern\u00e1ndez, a Mexican national, and Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, a Venezuelan national. Garcia-Hernandez was critically injured and died days later after being taken off life support. Bordones-Molina survived.<\/p>\n
For Prieto, the anniversary has brought back the trauma of losing her husband.<\/p>\n
“Today brings horrible memories. It’s like reliving it all again,” Prieto said.<\/p>\n
She said the last year has felt like a blur.<\/p>\n
“It’s been difficult, very difficult,” Prieto said, describing how accustomed she was to having Guzman-Fuentes in her life.<\/p>\n
\nQuestions that remain <\/p>\n
Prieto says she continues to seek information about what happened to her husband in the moments after he was shot.<\/p>\n
She said her attorney has requested Guzman-Fuentes’ autopsy report twice, but the family has not received it.<\/p>\n
She wants to know where he was shot, how long he survived and whether he could have been taken to a hospital and saved.<\/p>\n
“Every day, I still ask myself what happened,” Prieto said.<\/p>\n
“He was a human being, not an animal,” Prieto said. “Me and his family want to know what exactly happened.”<\/p>\n
WFAA reached out to ICE for information about any security changes or the latest investigative findings related to the shooting but has not heard back as of Thursday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The attack was investigated as a targeted act of violence. Federal authorities said Jahn acted alone and that his stated target was ICE personnel, although the people struck by the gunfire were detainees.<\/p>\n
\nA place to remember <\/p>\n
In Oak Cliff, the mural has become part of the community’s effort to keep the men’s memories alive.<\/p>\n
“It is to remember them, celebrate their lives and carry the message that this cannot happen again,” Prieto said.<\/p>\n
For Prieto, remembering Guzman-Fuentes has become part of learning how to live without him.<\/p>\n
“My life stopped when he died,” Prieto said.<\/p>\n
Prieto told WFAA she battled depression in the months after her late husband’s death, and she has received psychological help over the last year.<\/p>\n
A year later, she says she is still searching for answers that could help close what she describes as an open wound.<\/p>\n
