Officers arrived at about 7:45 p.m. at an apartment complex near the 2100 block of Revolutionary Way, and the child was taken to a local hospital and later died. Texas Safe Gun Storage says more than 50 percent of gun owners do not safely store their guns. The group recommends using a gun storage device, such as a trigger lock, biometric lock, gun case or safe, and keeping ammunition locked separately from firearms. Juan Gutierrez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said firearms should be stored in secure areas and away from shared spaces. He said they should not be left in the living room and should be placed in a bedroom or closet if possible. Parents are also urged to teach children not to touch a gun, to leave the room and to tell a trusted adult. Gutierrez said the same warning applies in homes without children, and firearms kept in cars or consoles should also be secured.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A child died Sept. 5 in Fort Worth after police say the child gained access to an unsecured…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":447413,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[10],"tags":[154206,116,118,117,154205,154204],"class_list":["post-447412","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-biometric-lock","tag-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth-headlines","tag-fort-worth-news","tag-juan-gutierrez","tag-texas-safe-gun-storage"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/447412","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=447412"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/447412\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/447413"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=447412"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=447412"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=447412"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
