One of San Antonio’s few authentic British tea rooms is preparing to close after nearly three years in business in the Stone Oak area.<\/p>\n

The Old English Tea Shoppe & Cafe, at 20122 Stone Oak Parkway,\u00a0was opened<\/a> in November 2023 by British expatriates Sandra and Peter Marley and business partners Janet and Dr. Robb Kelly. According to the restaurant’s website<\/a>,\u00a0the concept was created to give British expatriates a taste of home while introducing San Antonians to traditional English food and tea service.<\/p>\n

Since opening, the restaurant has become known for traditional British dishes such as fish and chips,\u00a0bangers and mash, beans on toast, black pudding and scones. It also built a following for its traditional afternoon tea service featuring finger sandwiches, pastries, scones and tea.<\/p>\n

In a Tuesday social media post<\/a>, the owners announced they are returning to the United Kingdom “due to circumstances beyond their control.” They did not provide additional details but thanked customers for supporting the business.<\/p>\n

“We want to thank every single customer who has supported us, shared a meal with us, celebrated special occasions with us, and made The Old English Tea Shoppe part of their lives,” the post said.<\/p>\n

The Old English Tea Shoppe’s final day of service will be Oct. 4.<\/p>\n
