{"id":448893,"date":"2026-09-27T00:34:12","date_gmt":"2026-09-27T00:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/448893\/"},"modified":"2026-09-27T00:34:12","modified_gmt":"2026-09-27T00:34:12","slug":"gus-garcia-young-mens-leadership-academy-opens-tech-lab-east-austin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/448893\/","title":{"rendered":"Gus Garcia Young Men&#8217;s Leadership Academy opens tech lab | East Austin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinisd.org\/schools\/garciaymla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Gus Garcia Young Men&#8217;s Leadership Academy<\/a> in East Austin now have access to augmented and virtual reality, 3D printing and artificial intelligence tools after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinisd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Austin ISD <\/a>unveiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verizon.com\/learning\/ar-vr-apps\/Verizon-Innovative-Learning-Lab-Emerging-Technologies-\/28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Verizon Innovative Learning Lab<\/a> at the school Sept. 24, according to a district news release.<\/p>\n<p>Why it matters<\/p>\n<p>The lab program was created to give students at Title I middle schools skills for a digital world, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/entrepreneurship.asu.edu\/programs\/verizon-innovative-learning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Arizona State University<\/a>. Students use design thinking to develop solutions to problems in their own communities, according to the district release.<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>The lab at the all-boys academy, 7414 Johnny Morris Road, is one of 200 Verizon Innovative Learning Labs nationwide, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>Verizon funded the lab through partnerships with two groups:<\/p>\n<p>Also of note<\/p>\n<p>Garcia has been part of Verizon&#8217;s Innovative Learning Schools program since 2019, when it was one of five AISD middle schools to join, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinisd.org\/announcements\/2019\/02\/11\/austin-isd-joins-verizon-innovative-learning-program-bring-247-internet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">district<\/a>.
