{"id":449155,"date":"2026-09-27T08:26:40","date_gmt":"2026-09-27T08:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/449155\/"},"modified":"2026-09-27T08:26:40","modified_gmt":"2026-09-27T08:26:40","slug":"sources-confirm-third-person-testified-before-grand-jury-in-salgado-araujo-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/449155\/","title":{"rendered":"Sources confirm third person testified before grand jury in Salgado Araujo investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) &#8212; Sources confirm at least three people have now gone before a Harris County grand jury to determine if a crime was committed in the shooting death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Sources say on Wednesday, Daniel Tirado Pantoja, one of three men who was in Salgado&#8217;s van when the shooting happened, gave his account.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">PREVIOUS REPORT: <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/post\/grand-jury-proceedings-have-already-begun-lorenzo-salgado-araujo-ice-shooting-case-law-enforcement-sources-confirm\/19811427\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Grand jury proceedings have begun in Houston ICE shooting case, law enforcement sources confirm<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">According to family, Salgado was driving a white van with three other men inside on their way to work on July 7th, when ICE agents began pursuing the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Video evidence of what exactly happened in the moments those shots were fired has yet to be released, but the Department of Homeland Security claims Salgado weaponized his vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">DHS has since confirmed that <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/post\/man-fatally-shot-federal-officer-houston-was-not-ice-target-dhs-says\/19478772\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Salgado was not the intended target of their operation that day<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">After the shooting, Tirado was held in ICE custody for more than a month and <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc13.com\/post\/final-witness-fatal-ice-shooting-houston-released-detention-center-attorney-says\/19766690\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">has since been released<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The DA&#8217;s office asked the federal government not to deport him and other witnesses, so they could participate in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">What happened inside a grand jury is confidential by law. While ABC13 doesn&#8217;t know what he told the grand jury on Wednesday, Tirado and those other witnesses have previously disputed what ICE has said publicly about what led up to the shooting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;We want justice to be done for Lorenzo, so we are happy to cooperate,&#8221; one of Tirado&#8217;s attorneys, Joaquin Gonzalez, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Gonzalez didn&#8217;t answer many questions, citing the proceedings&#8217; confidentiality.
