Last week\u2019s Did You Miss It?<\/a> tracked Dallas police staffing, Texas classroom battles, household costs and the White House\u2019s press-access and Arctic-security moves. This week, election integrity and immigration enforcement returned to the center of the news as the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to resume expanded citizenship checks through the federal SAVE system while litigation continues.<\/p>\n

McKinney recall organizers delivered petition sheets to the city after saying they collected more than 7,000 signatures and internally validated at least 6,500. The week also brought new scrutiny of social studies instruction about Islam, Hindu organizations with documented connections of varying degrees to India\u2019s RSS, online networks targeting children and Dallas\u2019 public-safety and infrastructure obligations.<\/p>\n

North Texas growth continued through commercial flights from McKinney, a planned driverless freight corridor and approval of AT&T\u2019s Plano headquarters site plan, while Texas regulators pressed data centers for power and water information.<\/p>\n

The Dallas Express also expanded its Future Voices incubator with the launch of Barber Ball Banter<\/a>, a new barbershop-style sports series covering the Cowboys, fantasy football and North Texas high school football.<\/p>\n

Election integrity, immigration and anti-ICE unrest<\/p>\n

Why It Matters: The Supreme Court\u2019s order lets the administration resume expanded SAVE searches while litigation continues, restoring access to federal records for citizenship checks. Federal prosecutors charged 16 people in an illegal-voting sweep and filed 264 Texas immigration cases in one week, while DX documented organized anti-ICE mobilization before unrest in Austin.<\/p>\n

McKinney recall, Islam and institutional influence<\/p>\n

Why It Matters: McKinney organizers submitted petition sheets after reporting more than 7,000 signatures, but the city must determine whether they met the 5,805-signature threshold. Separate coverage tracked disputes over Islam in Texas social studies, RSS-linked Hindu organizations in North Texas and an opinion call for stronger enforcement of Texas\u2019 anti-Sharia proposals.<\/p>\n

Crime, children and institutional failures<\/p>\n

Why It Matters: Federal investigators warned that 764-related networks target children through games and social media before using blackmail. North Texas cases included a $26 million TRICARE fraud conviction and allegations involving a former principal, a Dallas ISD officer shooting and a motel beheading.<\/p>\n

Dallas government and local accountability<\/p>\n

Why It Matters: Dallas\u2019 chief financial officer will retire with the city 590 officers below Proposition U\u2019s minimum, while six officers were disciplined after a fatal crash. DX also followed rideshare account-sharing allegations at DFW Airport and Sand Branch residents\u2019 long-running lack of municipal water and sewer service.<\/p>\n

Data centers and North Texas growth<\/p>\n

Why It Matters: Texas is pressing 461 proposed data centers for power and water information as Attorney General Ken Paxton investigates nonresponsive projects. North Texas growth included Kodiak\u2019s planned driverless freight launch, four new Avelo routes and Plano\u2019s approval of AT&T\u2019s $1.35 billion headquarters site plan.<\/p>\n
