RIO GRANDE VALLEY \u2014 The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s soccer team fell to Houston Christian University (HCU) 4-1 at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex Sunday. \nThe Vaqueros (4-6-1, 0-2-1 SLC) cut into the deficit in the 31st minute when freshman Anuhea Aalona<\/a> scored her second career goal on a chip in shot, finding the bottom-right corner of the net to make it 2-1.

\nThe Huskies (5-3-3, 1-0-1 SLC) opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Paisley Barela found the bottom-left corner of the net off an assist from Isabella Dillow to give HCU a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

\nUTRGV goalkeeper sophomore Mariana Am\u00e9zcua kept the Vaqueros within striking distance throughout the opening half, making seven saves, including stops on shots from Dillow, Barela and Rossman.
\n\u00a0
\nHCU earned a penalty minutes later, but Huskies’ Zylee Dominguez was unable to convert as Am\u00e9zcua made a diving save, going full extension to the left side of the net.

\nThe Huskies regained their two-goal advantage in the 37th minute when Madison Stormberg scored from the right side off an assist from Ella Remy, making it 3-1.

\nHCU tacked on with a penalty kick that connected on the left corner of the net by Remy in the 88th minute.

\nAmezcua tied her career-high in saves with eight, the second time since her eight save performance at Tarleton State earlier this season.

\nThe Huskies outshot the Vaqueros 21-5 with a 14-1 advantage on goal. HCU also tallied 10 corners versus two by UTRGV.

\nThe Vaqueros return to action Oct. 8, to face McNeese at UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex at 11 a.m., on Thursday.
