An 18-wheeler struck several cars and overturned on a Dallas highway on Sept. 25<\/p>\n

Three people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition, officials confirmed; six vehicles, including the 18-wheeler, were involved in the collision<\/p>\n

A hazmat crew worked to contain 170 gallons of spilled diesel fuel and other fluids while the highway was temporarily closed in both directions<\/p>\n

Several people were injured and a hazmat team was deployed to a Texas highway after an 18-wheeler struck a barrier and overturned, sending more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilling onto the road.<\/p>\n

According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth<\/a> and the Dallas Morning News<\/a>, emergency services were first called to Dallas’ Interstate 20 \u2014 near the Dallas North Tollway at Loop 12, one of the city’s central roadways \u2014 for the multi-vehicle collision just after 11 a.m. local time on Friday, Sept. 25.<\/p>\n

Police and fire officials said an 18-wheeler driving in the southbound lane reportedly struck several cars before crashing into a wall.<\/p>\n

Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed to the Morning News that 911 callers who reported the incident told dispatchers that six vehicles were involved, including the 18-wheeler, which rolled onto its side after the collision.<\/p>\n

Photos from NBC 5’s news helicopter showed the 18-wheeler toppled onto its side as fire trucks, police cars and other vehicles surrounded the scene.<\/p>\n

Three people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries following the collision, including a man and woman in their 30s and a woman in her 20s, fire officials said. All three were reported to be in stable condition as of Friday.<\/p>\n

Fire officials also shared that a hazmat (hazardous materials) crew was dispatched to the scene. After the 18-wheeler overturned, its saddle tanks ruptured and spilled about 170 gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.<\/p>\n

There were also several totes in the back of the semi-truck that contained miscellaneous fluids, including used cooking oil, that hazmat technicians were working to contain, the Morning News reported.<\/p>\n

The highway’s northbound lanes were later closed, shutting down travel in both directions, per the outlets. A spokesman for the North Texas Tollway Authority said both directions later reopened.<\/p>\n
