How Chicken Salad Chick became a hero for hungry Texas kids<\/p>\n
When Texas children were going hungry, Chicken Salad Chick<\/a> was the first restaurant to step up.<\/p>\n The Georgia-based sandwich chain known for its 16 kinds<\/a> of chicken salad, egg salad and pimiento cheese has opened its arms to all families \u2014 without asking questions.<\/p>\n Kids eat free<\/a> in most Fort Worth-area locations. All kids. Every day.<\/p>\n That\u2019s the offer until federal food benefits are restored, to make sure no child misses meals because lawmakers in Washington are acting like children.<\/p>\n Chicken Salad Chicken\u2019s offer is not political, the restaurant posted on Facebook: \u201cWe simply believe that no child should go hungry.\u201d<\/p>\n Two weeks later, Chicken Salad Chick has a tremendous number of new fans and friends.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have been overwhelmed with the positive comments,\u201d Fort Worth store franchisee John Schissler said, telling how the restaurants had more social media \u201clikes\u201d and comments the first day than in 10 years in the market.<\/p>\n Chicken Salad Chick is seeing new customers but also filling new catering orders for businesses and companies wanting to show support, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe people in our communities that have kept showing up in our restaurants are the reason why we\u2019re able to help children and families,\u201d Schissler said.<\/p>\nA cranberry-almond chicken salad sandwich at the Chicken Salad Chick on Tehama Ridge Parkway in Fort Worth, seen July 28, 2016.
