LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Bobby Carter has been a part of StarCare for more than 18 years. Carter knows anyone can go through pain at any moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt could just be someone like me and you,\u201d Carter said. \u201cWe could be having a difficult time and we find ourselves in situations that maybe we cannot deal with, we cannot cope with.\u201d<\/p>\n
StarCare\u2019s Mobile Crisis Outreach Team consists of 12 qualified mental health professionals providing crisis coverage 24\/7 for individuals experiencing mental health care struggles.<\/p>\n
Carter says there\u2019s a few signs to look out for if you think someone is having trouble in their life.<\/p>\n
\u201cLosing interests in things you normally find enjoyment in, extreme isolation from the people around you, increased sleep, decreased sleep,\u201d Carter said. \u201cCould be increased appetite, could be decreased appetite.\u201d<\/p>\n
StarCare\u2019s team can provide people with a crisis assessment, support services and, finding a way to resolve a crisis situation with a person-centered approach. Carter suggests approaching the situation appropriately to those who know someone experiencing struggles.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge people to ask open-ended questions,\u201d Carter said. \u201cYou seem like you\u2019re having a difficult time, please help me understand what\u2019s going on. Tell me what\u2019s going on, what are some ways that I can help you?\u201d<\/p>\n
The CDC recently found an estimated 14.3 million adults seriously thought about suicide in 2024, making services like these even more important.<\/p>\n
The outreach team is available for residents in five counties (Cochran County, Crosby County, Hockley County, Lubbock County, Lynn County), and to receive service call (806) 740-1414.<\/p>\n
Carter urges people to use this opportunity and take control before it too late. <\/p>\n
\u201cI urge people that as soon as these thoughts start creeping in to reach out and try and get help,\u201d Carter said. \u201cThe likelihood of success is going to increase and it\u2019s going to make it much easier for you to work through the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n
