We’ve got some dive stations here in Fort Worth as well as other fire departments throughout North Texas. Those dive teams, they’re making sure that all their boats and watercraft and everything are running perfectly,” said Craig Trojacek, Fort Worth PIO.

Every Fort Worth firefighter has some water rescue training, but the two stations that specialize in swift water rescue have been placed at different ends of the city, so there’s no need to move teams ahead of the storm.

“So we don’t necessarily pre-plant them because, like I said, they kind of already have the city divided, I guess you could say. This is just a normal event for us this time. Prepared for any kind of emergency, 24/7, 365. The guys here are more than prepared. They check out their boats daily, not just for an event coming up. This stuff that we prepare for every day,” said Juan Mata, Arlington Fire PIO.

Fire crews say the problem is people underestimate the rain and how quickly things can change, saying six inches of water can make a car lose control and a foot can make a vehicle float.

“So everyone’s aware that the ground is dry, so it’s not going to absorb as much water as we think it is. Most of it’s going to end up in runoff, which is going to increase flash flooding.
