A 10-year-old Dallas boy was hospitalized after gunfire struck his apartment late Monday night, hitting him in the leg as he slept, according to police.<\/p>\n

The shooting was reported<\/a> around 11:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 6800 block of South Cockrell Hill Road<\/a> in the Red Bird area. Investigators believe several rounds were fired from outside the complex.<\/p>\n

Bullets Entered Apartment<\/p>\n

Police said multiple shots were fired<\/a> toward the apartment building, with at least two rounds penetrating the residence through a wall and window.<\/p>\n

At least one of the bullets struck the child in the leg. His mother and sister, who were also inside the apartment when the shooting occurred, were not injured.<\/p>\n

The boy was taken to Children\u2019s Medical Center Dallas for treatment. His injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening, and he is expected to survive, Fox 4 KDFW reported.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe the shooting was random and do not believe the family was intentionally targeted.<\/p>\n

No Suspect Identified<\/p>\n

Officers recovered shell casings from the street as they investigated the scene.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not identified a suspect or released a description of anyone believed to be responsible. Police are also looking for surveillance video from the surrounding area that could provide clues.<\/p>\n
