AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 City leaders helped break ground on Austin-Bergstrom International Airport\u2019s (AUS) new Concourse M on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n
It will add six gates on the west side of the airfield as part of the airport’s major expansion project.<\/p>\n
The 37,000-square-foot facility will operate separately from the Barbara Jordan Terminal. Passengers will take a shuttle from Gate 13 in the Barbara Jordan Terminal to reach it.<\/p>\n

Airport leaders say the concourse will help maintain gate space while crews build a future 26-gate concourse and remodel Concourse A.<\/p>\n
\u201cConcourse M is a critical component of the Journey With AUS expansion program, allowing us to advance major construction while continuing to serve millions of passengers each year,\u201d AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi said. \u201cBy providing additional gate capacity as construction takes shape throughout the airport campus, Concourse M will help us support our airline partners, reduce operational impact and keep our community connected as we build the airport the Central Texas region needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The concourse will feature amenities such as full-size restrooms and a family restroom, a nursing room, public Wi-Fi, a pet relief area and large seating areas. It will also feature a coffee market with 24-hour vending, grab-and-go food, beverages and retail options.<\/p>\n
The airport said Concourse M could open as early as 2028.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investments we’re making at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport are about more than today\u2019s travel needs; they’re about ensuring long-term prosperity and economic strength for our region,\u201d said Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. \u201cConcourse M will allow AUS to maintain reliable operations while multiple construction projects through the Journey With AUS expansion program advance across the airport, preserving gate capacity and keeping passengers, airlines and commerce moving. This kind of infrastructure planning is essential to sustaining Austin\u2019s competitiveness and economic vitality for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n
Airport officials said the project will be paid for with airport revenue, grants and bond proceeds, not local tax dollars.<\/p>\n
