Police say there had been some type of custody hearing involving the mother and child earlier in the day<\/p>\n

HOUSTON \u2013 Houston police are at a homicide scene in the Memorial area where a woman allegedly shot and killed her young daughter before turning the gun on herself.<\/p>\n

Police say it happened in the 300 block of Terra Reserve Place.<\/p>\n

Lt. Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department says officers were called at around 5:45 p.m. after a reported shooting.<\/p>\n

Crowson says they arrived and found a 4-year-old girl dead from an apparent gunshot wound. They also found a 30-year-old woman, who is the child\u2019s mother, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition, but is expected to survive.<\/p>\n

Crowson says there was some type of custody hearing earlier in the day and the mother may have lost custody. She was at the home with her daughter. The child\u2019s stepfather and a babysitter were also at the house at the time and said they heard gunshots before finding the two had been shot.<\/p>\n

Homicide investigators continue to investigate at the scene.<\/p>\n
