DALLAS – Police say a 12-year-old died after being hit head on by a car that veered into oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n

What we know:<\/p>\n

Police say a 12-year-old, Daniel Barbosa-L\u00f3pez, died after being hit head-on by a car that veered into oncoming traffic. The driver of the car that veered into the traffic also died.<\/p>\n

Three other people, including Barbosa-L\u00f3pez’s brother and sister, were transported to the hospital following the crash.<\/p>\n

What we don’t know:<\/p>\n

Police have not yet released details on what caused the crash.<\/p>\n

What they’re saying:<\/p>\n

Jese Garcia, Daniel’s father, says he and his family had just returned to North Texas from San Diego, where they watched Daniel’s older brother graduate from the Marines.<\/p>\n

The family was returning home from a quincea\u00f1era when the crash occurred.<\/p>\n

Garcia says his older son suffered seven broken ribs and a collapsed lung. His daughter needed pelvic surgery, and now has a plate in her body.<\/p>\n

He tells FOX 4’s Vania Castillo he’s heartbroken, but being strong for his family. Garcia and his wife have taken off from work to care for their grieving children.<\/p>\n

When asked about Daniel, Garcia says he wanted to be an immigration attorney, but thought he might grow up to be a chef.<\/p>\n

Support for the Barbosa-L\u00f3pez family <\/p>\n

What they’re saying:<\/p>\n

Chan Thai & Pho 88 is having a Loter\u00eda night to benefit the Barboza-L\u00f3pez family. The event will take place this Sunday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., and 100% of the proceeds will go to the family.<\/p>\n

In a GoFundMe<\/a> post, the family said: “With deep sadness, we are asking for the support of our family, friends, and community following the passing of our beloved Daniel Barbosa-L\u00f3pez. At the same time, his two siblings are hospitalized, and his parents will need to take time away from work to be by their side and support them. Our family is also facing Daniel\u2019s funeral expenses and other essential needs during this difficult time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser is also a great way to help. Thank you for your prayers, support, and kindness.”<\/p>\n
