Undercover video appears to show Texas Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico telling a supporter his position on transgender issues \u201chasn\u2019t changed,\u201d just 4 days after he told Fox News he would oppose transgender athletes in girls\u2019 sports when safety or fairness is at risk<\/p>\n
The footage, reportedly recorded Sept. 13 at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, shows Talarico promising to fight for transgender children in the U.S. Senate as he did in the Texas Legislature. <\/p>\n
Talarico also says decisions about transgender athletes should be made locally, sport by sport and athlete by athlete. <\/p>\n
He tells the woman that reports about his position are being clipped and maintains that he has the most inclusive policy of any candidate in the race.<\/p>\n
During his Sept. 9 Fox News interview, Talarico also backed a national ban on gender-transition surgeries for minors and walked back his previous assertion that there are 6 biological sexes. <\/p>\n
His comments marked a departure from his legislative record, which includes votes against Texas restrictions on transgender medical procedures for minors and school sports participation based on biological sex. <\/p>\n
Separate undercover footage reportedly shows Democratic organizer Jennifer Miranda describing Talarico\u2019s recent shift as an effort to appeal to more Republican voters.<\/p>\n
