So, jumping ahead to the \u201cTicket Alert\u201d portion of this column, it has just been announced that Harry Waters (son of Roger, who some would categorize as a son of a bitch) will be touring next spring with a show \u2013 created under his father\u2019s direction \u2013 called \u201cLegacy \u2013 A Pink Floyd Show.\u201d\u00a0 The repertoire will include selections from the classic Pink Floyd albums \u201cThe Dark Side of the Moon,\u201d \u201cWish You Were Here,\u201d \u201cAnimals\u201d and \u201cThe Wall.\u201d\u00a0 The Houston date has been set for Sunday, March 24, at the Hobby Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know anything about Harry Waters, except that he played keyboards in his father\u2019s backing band for several years.\u00a0 That is, until he was fired by Roger, along with most of the rest of the band, prior to a 2017 tour.\u00a0 Harry described the firing as \u201cdoubly hurtful,\u201d since he was canned by his own father.<\/p>\n

Certainly, relationships between fathers and sons can be complicated and sometimes not really understood by those outside looking in.\u00a0 But (evidently) when Roger began to recruit him for this upcoming tour, Harry didn\u2019t tell him to honk off.\u00a0 Loyalty?\u00a0 Maybe they made up post-firing?\u00a0 Yeah, but still\u2026<\/p>\n

Sure, it\u2019s different when the person in question is a family member, but Roger Waters has, quite correctly, been identified as a control freak, a selfish bandmate, a man lacking in empathy, an egomaniac, an antisemite, a geyser of hate and a guy who wore Nazi-esque regalia onstage.\u00a0 So why would anyone \u2013 even those who dearly love Pink Floyd\u2019s catalog \u2013 want to attend a show with \u201cRoger Waters Presents\u201d atop the billing?\u00a0 Might as well call the band \u201cMein F\u00fchrer and His Bunker Boys.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

OK, I\u2019m done.\u00a0 But for the record, if I need to hear some Pink Floyd music performed live, I will seek out a performance by the excellent tribute band Brit Floyd.\u00a0 They are gifted musicians and seem like decent sorts.<\/p>\n

Ticket Alert<\/p>\n

If you love soul music (and who doesn\u2019t, really?), don\u2019t miss out on the \u201cLove of Soul\u201d tour, stopping at Toyota Center<\/a> on Friday, March 12, The tour boasts a triple bill highlighted by Fantasia, whose career got started in 2004 when she knocked the \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d judges on their collective ass with a powerhouse rendition of Gershwin\u2019s standard \u201cSummertime.\u201d\u00a0 Anthony Hamilton and October London will open.<\/p>\n

Latina popsters Ha*Ash (sisters Hanna Nicole and Ashley Grace) are set to perform at the 713 Music Hall<\/a> on Sunday, May 16.\u00a0 The siblings have racked up a bunch of hit records while distinguishing themselves as philanthropists and being named as ambassadors for the Save the Children Foundation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We\u2019re barely out of September (one more day, anyway), and tickets are already on sale for Slipknot\u2019s show at Daikin Park<\/a> on Friday, August 6, 2027.\u00a0 The concert promises to be a BFD, as it will mark the masked metal marauders\u2019\u00a0first headlining stadium tour, which is billed as \u201cThe (sic)est Stadium Tour.\u201d\u00a0 Clever, boys, clever.\u00a0 And with Bring Me the Horizon and Polyphia (from Plano) opening, it\u2019s a strong bill.<\/p>\n

Concerts This Week<\/p>\n

Well, this is the one that everyone has been waiting for.\u00a0 Everyone, that is, who is of a certain age, probably male, and can really identify with Jason Segel\u2019s and Paul Rudd\u2019s characters in the movie I Love You, Man. Yep, I\u2019m talking about Rush, a band that is in the midst of a tour that was never supposed to happen.\u00a0 Following the death of drummer Neil Peart a few years ago, surviving members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson announced that Rush was closed for business.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But after allowing some time for healing and reflection, the boys embarked on a brief tour at the start of the summer, joined by drummer Anika Nilles and keyboard player Loren Gold.\u00a0 Being Canadians, they were cautious and began the tour on a modest scale.\u00a0 But as the demand for tickets increased, Lee and Lifeson decided to add more shows in different cities, and that\u2019s what brings them to Houston Thursday night at Toyota Center<\/a>.\u00a0 Be sure to get there early, though, as the pre-show videos are definitely worth your time and funny as hell to boot.<\/p>\n

There are few success stories like that of Don Was.\u00a0 From moderate success with his first band of note, Was (Not Was), and the songs \u201cKnocked Down, Made Small (Treated Like a Rubber Ball)\u201d and \u201cWalk the Dinosaur,\u201d Was went on to produce top-drawer artists like the Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the meantime, he directed several music-based documentary films and was appointed president of the jazz label Blue Note Records in 2011.\u00a0 But Was was (?) always a player first and foremost, and he has appeared as a bassist on numerous stages with a wide variety of musicians, most recently in the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, which will perform on Thursday at the Heights Theater<\/a>.\u00a0 For more on this musical venture, check out Jesse Sendejas\u2019 Houston Press interview<\/a> with Was from earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Oh, and if you need yet another option for live music on Thursday, British neo-folkies Mumford and Sons<\/a> will play the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.\u00a0 On Friday at the Pavilion \u2013 and this will be a treat \u2013 Boz Scaggs<\/a> (please, Boz, sing \u201cLoan Me a Dime\u201d) will headline a show whose bill also includes Irma Thomas, the \u201cSoul Queen of New Orleans.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s about as real as it gets. \u00a0And \u2018Cause Knowledge is Power, be aware that Thomas recorded the first (some would say best) version of \u201cTime is on My Side,\u201d which was a hit for the Stones in 1964.<\/p>\n

Then it\u2019s back to the Way Out in the Woods Mitchell Pavilion on Saturday for ZZ Top<\/a>, Cheap Trick and El Campo homeboy AJ Vallejo.\u00a0 This show will mark ZZ Top\u2019s first appearance in Houston since drummer Frank Beard\u2019s passing, so the vibe may be a bit strange.\u00a0 On Sunday, filling out a busy weekend at the CWMP, TLC<\/a>, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue will kick it old school, though this time there will be no intro for the ages from Patrick Stewart<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kacey Musgraves has never been a typical country artist.\u00a0 She has admitted that, during the early part of her career, she would \u201cwake and bake\u201d by hitting a gravity bong first thing in the morning (\u201cThe best part of wakin\u2019 up\u2026\u201d), but by 2024, her song \u201cDeeper Well\u201d noted that she had cut back considerably on that sort of activity, along with other habits that \u201cwaste [her] time.\u201d\u00a0 And then there\u2019s \u201cFollow Your Arrow,\u201d in which she encourages listeners to \u201cKiss lots of boys \/ Or kiss lots of girls, if that\u2019s something you\u2019re into,\u201d adding later, \u201cRoll up a joint, or don\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0 Catch Musgraves\u2019 act on Monday at Toyota Center<\/a>.\u00a0 Or don\u2019t\u00a0 Whatever you\u2019re into.<\/p>\n
