The kNOwBOX Dance Film Festival<\/a> is coming to the Bath House Cultural Center on Saturday, Oct. 3.<\/p>\n

The international festival is produced by kNOwBOX Dance, a Dallas-based nonprofit. Bringing together dance, film, technology and live performances, the festival aims to connect artists with the Lake Highlands and East Dallas communities in new ways.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is \u201cThe Light We Move Toward: When the World Darkens, We Dance.\u201d The festival will feature three international dance films: \u201cOur Circle in the Storm,\u201d \u201cA Snake on the Grass\u201d and \u201cEND of BARDO.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA Snake on the Grass,<\/a>\u201d directed by award-winning French filmmaker and choreographer Fu Le, follows Tara, who meets a worker and plans to escape with him, causing jealousy within the village.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Circle in the Storm<\/a>,\u201d directed by U.K.-based filmmaker Ray Jacobs, is a nine-minute dance film by Arty Party featuring a cast of dancers with and without disabilities.<\/p>\n

\u201cEND of BARDO,<\/a>\u201d directed by Yekyeom Kim, received the festival\u2019s First Prize. The film follows a man who, while on his way home, realizes he is dead.<\/p>\n

In addition to the film screenings, the festival will feature live and interactive experiences throughout the Bath House.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event also includes live and interactive experiences throughout the Bath House, including Configure by Jordan Fuchs Company, a live dance installation by mixtamotus with live cello, interactive video projection and live painting,\u201d Martheya Scott, co-creator and executive director of kNOwBOX Dance, said.<\/p>\n

This year, the festival received 91 film submissions from more than 30 countries, which were reviewed by a jury of 22 artists.<\/p>\n

Now in its eighth year, the festival features programming in the U.S., South Korea and Mexico. Scott said this year\u2019s Bath House programming will give the festival a different feel.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love the Bath House because it allows us to move beyond a traditional film screening,\u201d Scott said. \u201cAudiences will travel through different spaces. [The Bath House\u2019s] location on White Rock Lake also makes it a wonderful home for bringing dance, film and community together.\u201d<\/p>\n

The festival will have two time blocks: an afternoon block from 4 to 6 p.m. and an evening block from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The evening block will conclude with an artist Q&A.<\/p>\n
