Lace up your skates and check those bike tires – Plano students are biking, skating and walking to school on Oct. 7.<\/p>\n

Plano ISD<\/a> students and families are encouraged to ditch the car and take a more active route to class Oct. 7 for National Walk, Bike and Roll to School Day.<\/a><\/p>\n

The district is participating in the national event in conjunction with the North Central Texas Council of Governments. The event promotes healthy habits, a cleaner environment and safer routes to and from school while encouraging students, parents and staff to commute together, a news release said.<\/p>\n

Participants are encouraged to begin their routes about 30 minutes before school starts. Plano ISD recommends starting at 7:10 a.m. for elementary schools, 7:55 a.m. for middle schools and 8:30 a.m. for high schools.<\/p>\n

Planned safety routes are available<\/a> within a two-mile radius of each participating campus. Families who live farther away can carpool to a location near the two-mile radius, park and complete the rest of the trip by walking, biking or rolling to school, the district said in the release.<\/p>\n
