However, an eastward shift in the low pressure over the Eastern US and the high pressure over the Southwestern US will bring much warmer weather to West Texas and eastern New Mexico today and in the days ahead.

Sunny with a few clouds, breezy, and very warm Tuesday afternoon.(KCBD First Alert)

Under the increasing influence of the Southwestern ridge skies today generally will be sunny, winds somewhat breezy (west-southwesterly 10 to 20 mph), with well-above average temperatures for Veterans’ Day.

For Lubbock, the average high is 66°. The record high? That’s 82°, set on this date in 1956. Above you can see what I’m expecting, including my forecast of a record high.

In case you missed it yesterday, here again are Lubbock’s record highs and the year set for each day this week:

Monday 85° set in 1927

Tuesday is 82° in 1956

Wednesday 85° in 1995

Thursday 82° in 1973

Friday 85° 1933

Saturday 85° 1965

Sunday 88° 2021

Well-above average high temperatures, with some record highs, this week.(KCBD First Alert)

Our Next Weather-Maker

Regarding the Pacific storm I mentioned yesterday. There are some changes.

It is still anticipated to move onto the West Coast over the next few days. It will bring heavy rain to California Wednesday night through Friday with heavy snow in the mountains. Possibly three or more feet of snow in the Sierras. The system may bring snow to the mountains of northern and western New Mexico by Saturday.

Here’s the change in our outlook from yesterday.

Guidance now is slower on the movement of this system, which would temper our weekend cooldown and delay the onset of possible rain. Guidance also takes the center of the storm across the Panhandle versus the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area. This change, too, would temper the cooldown as well as decrease our shower chances.

There is a slight chance of showers late Saturday and Sunday.(KCBD First Alert)

There is still much time and ground to cover before these changes begin. Which means there remains much room for changes to the outlook between now and then. We will continue to fine tune our forecast throughout the week.

On This Date

2009 (11th-12th): A widespread dense fog event occurred over the extreme southeastern Panhandle and the northern Rolling Plains late on the 11th through the early morning hours of the 12th. A

teenage boy was injured in an auto accident in Paducah during the late evening hours of the 11th. Though weather was not a contributing factor in the accident, air ambulance operations were not possible due to low visibility in fog and the patient died before he could be moved to a hospital.
