The affected transactions produced incomplete voter registration records, preventing them from being transmitted to county officials.

DPS previously said it had worked with the Texas secretary of state’s office to identify incomplete records and backfill missing information. On Wednesday, the agency said it had resent all potentially affected records to the secretary of state’s office, which in turn forwarded them to county voter registrars for processing.

In a statement Wednesday, DPS said an October 2025 software update by a third-party vendor caused three pieces of data to be omitted from the daily files it sends to the Texas secretary of state’s office for online driver’s license and identification card transactions. The agency said it identified the problem in late August, resolved it Sept. 13 and resent all affected records to the secretary of state’s office.

DPS said the issue affected only online driver’s license and identification card transactions in which applicants opted to register to vote. Customers who registered during in-person visits to DPS offices were not affected.

The agency also said it has added controls with the secretary of state’s office to ensure complete records are transmitted and said it has not identified any additional problems since the issue was resolved.

The American-Statesman reached out to the secretary of state’s office for additional comment.

The state began delivering the unsent registrations to county officials early last week, after the secretary of state’s office became aware of the issue, according to the Texas Tribune.

Election officials noticed a spike in “older” voter registration applications coming from DPS in TEAM, the state’s voter registration system. Officials have not said what information was missing, what caused the records to be incomplete, how many voters across how many counties were affected or exactly when the problem began, according to Votebeat.

The agency still has not disclosed how many affected records are new registrations versus updates, or whether the error prevented any voters from casting ballots in the March primary election.

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to include information from DPS.

The Travis County Tax Office received about 32,000 applications from DPS overnight, bringing the total number of DPS…

[11
132,134,133
post-452771","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-austin","tag-austin","tag-austin-headlines","tag-austin-news
["GET
